Each year I plan a fun, handmade Valentine’s project for my kids. We’ve decorated pudding cups, applesauce pouches and more. This year, when I discovered the new HERSHEY® Lava Cake KISSES chocolates, I knew they would be perfect for our Valentine’s Day treats.

I love giving homemade valentines. They take a little extra time, but that effort shows someone you care.
The new HERSHEY® Lava Cake KISSES have a molten, creamy center that captures the taste of a warm lava cake. They’re delicious and easy to find at Walmart, which makes it simple to pick up everything you need for Valentine’s Day.

Years ago my sister-in-law made sweet little rosebuds using HERSHEY® KISSES for my brother’s wedding favors. Seeing the Lava Cake KISSES reminded me of those rosebuds, and I knew they would look adorable turned into flowers on a crown for my girls to give to their friends.

These candy flower crowns also make charming place settings for a Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day party. Scroll to the end of the instructions for free printable Valentines to pair with the crowns.
Candy Flower Crown

Supplies:
- Floral tape
- Grapevine wire
- NEW HERSHEY® Lava Cake KISSES chocolates (available at Walmart)
- Small artificial flowers
- Cellophane wrap or lightweight paper
- Double-sided tape
- Hot glue gun

Directions:

1. Use double-sided tape to attach the bottom of one HERSHEY® Lava Cake KISSES chocolate to the bottom of a second, creating a stacked pair.
2. Cut several 5 x 5 inch squares of cellophane. I used five squares to make one crown.
3. Place a stacked pair in the center of a cellophane square, fold the cellophane up and wrap it around the chocolates to form a bud.
4. Wrap floral tape just below where the cellophane gathers and trim the excess cellophane flush with the tape.

5. Measure the grapevine wire to fit the head you’re making the crown for, adding about an inch for overlap. Cut two equal lengths, then twist them together along their full length to form a stronger base.
6. Form the twisted wire into a circle, insert the raw ends into the loop, and twist to secure. This makes the crown adjustable and sturdy.

7. Make five candy rosebuds for each crown. Find the front of the crown and plan where the flowers will sit—space them evenly and face them in the same direction for a polished look.
8. Gently open a small gap in the grapevine and tuck in the stem portion of each wrapped candy. Add a few dabs of hot glue around the grapevine and floral tape to secure each candy bud in place.
9. Remove small blossoms from the stems of the artificial flowers and use hot glue to tuck flowers and leaves around and between the candy buds, filling any large gaps and creating a full, balanced arrangement.

Here’s the finished crown—sweet, wearable and festive.

The side view shows how the candies and flowers sit on the grapevine base. I love how delicate and playful these little crowns look.
