When cold weather settles in, I like to make something in the kitchen that brings back the warmth of summer. It always seems to make the season feel a little cozier.
This weekend was cold and rainy here in Utah. For the first time we left the house wearing beanies, heavy coats, and plenty of layers. While I adore fall clothing, it was a little sad to realize summer was truly behind us. Not quite ready to say goodbye to long, warm days, I headed to the kitchen and created this decadent cake. Doesn’t it remind you of summer? S’mores are one of our family’s favorite summer treats.
Chocolate, marshmallow, graham crackers, and rich caramel combine in this cake for an irresistible dessert. It’s simple to prepare and wonderfully different from ordinary cakes. If guests are coming and you want to bring a bit of summertime into the cooler months, give this cake a try.

- 1 box chocolate cake mix and the ingredients it requires
- 1 (12.25 oz) jar marshmallow topping
- 1 (16 oz) jar caramel topping
- 1 (8 oz) container Cool Whip, thawed to room temperature
- 1 cup crushed graham crackers
- Bake the cake according to package directions in a 9×13-inch pan.
- Allow the cake to cool for about 5 minutes.
- Use the handle end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the warm cake.
- While the cake is still warm, slowly pour the marshmallow topping over the top, letting some fill the holes.
- Drizzle the caramel topping evenly over the cake, making sure some reaches the holes as well.
- Spread the Cool Whip evenly over the top of the cake.
- Sprinkle the crushed graham crackers over the Cool Whip to finish.
- Refrigerate the cake until ready to serve. Store any leftovers in the fridge.
Enjoy!
