DIY Paper Flower Mason Jar Centerpiece Tutorial

Hey friends! I’m excited to share two new favorite crafting finds. The first is DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish paint. I recently used it on a succulent planter and again on a mason jar, and it’s become a go-to product. The paint applies smoothly, typically needs only one or two coats, and dries quickly. For this paper-flower mason jar vase I used two thin coats for full coverage. The second tool I’m loving is the We R Memory Keepers Flower Punch Board. WRMK’s punch board makes paper flowers simple and fast—perfect for a last-minute gift. Combine a few paper flowers, some straws, a painted mason jar, and printable Mother’s Day gift tags for a quick, thoughtful present.

Supplies:

  • Americana Chalky Finish Paint (available at many craft retailers)
  • Mason jar
  • We R Memory Keepers Flower Punch Board
  • Assorted paper
  • Enamel dots for flower centers
  • Straws (for stems)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Felt bow or other embellishment

Printable Mother’s Day Gift Tags are included with this project for easy customization.

Step one: Trim your paper according to the punch board’s chart for the flower sizes you want. I used a combination of XS, S, and M to create a varied bouquet. The punch board includes printed instructions on the front, showing exactly where to score and punch each petal. Work through the board by aligning, punching, and scoring until the piece is finished.

Step two: After scoring, fold the petals in an accordion style. Add a small amount of adhesive to hold the petals together at the back. For added depth, trim one of the outer petals slightly so the flower doesn’t sit completely flat.

Assembly: Paint the mason jar with the chalky finish paint, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Once dry, arrange the paper flowers on straw stems and secure them in the jar with hot glue or a small foam insert. Add a felt bow around the jar mouth and attach a printable Mother’s Day gift tag with baker’s twine for a polished touch.
