I am thrilled to announce the arrival of the new Camp Chef Woodwind WiFi — an already excellent pellet smoker that’s now even better with integrated WiFi and modern controls.
I’ve spent several weeks using this unit and I’m genuinely impressed with its build, features, and the convenience the WiFi connectivity adds to the smoking experience.
Why WiFi matters
With WiFi capability you can connect the smoker to your home network in a few straightforward steps and then monitor and control it from a smartphone or tablet. That means you can check temperatures, adjust settings, and manage the cook from virtually anywhere.
Whether you need to run errands, head to work, or get some sleep, you can still keep tabs on your smoker and up to four pieces of meat simultaneously. That level of remote control makes long cooks much less stressful.
Now a bit about my personal experience:
The unit arrived well packaged, as I’ve come to expect from Camp Chef.

Assembly required a few basic steps:
- Attach the legs
- Install the hopper lid
- Mount the bottom shelf
- Attach the cord wrap/handle
- Install the upper grate rails
- Fit the front lid handle
- Install the chimney
I completed all the assembly in about an hour by myself, though I asked for a hand when standing the unit on its legs. I took my time photographing the process, so most users will go faster. Note that adding the optional propane-fueled Sidekick griddle is a separate step when you mount it to the right side of the smoker.
The hopper
Camp Chef designed the hopper to hold a full bag of pellets — it accepts 22 lbs, so you can fill it without pellets spilling over the top. A clear front window lets you check pellet level at a glance. On the back of the hopper there’s a convenient chute and a pull knob that lets pellets flow out when you need to empty it for cleaning or to switch pellet types.
Handle and cord wrap
Simple touches matter. The integrated cord wrap is an easy feature that improves tidiness and shows attention to detail. It’s a small convenience that’s appreciated when storing or moving the unit.

Bottom storage shelf
The bottom shelf is sturdy and useful for storing extra pellet bags or accessories. I often store the top grate there when I need more vertical space for cooking taller items like a turkey.

Upper and lower grates
This Woodwind includes both a full-size upper grate and a lower grate. Many pellet smokers omit the upper rack or sell it as an add-on, so having it included is a welcome advantage. The upper grate is removable when you need extra cooking height or easier access to baste or flip food.

Easy ash removal
Like other Woodwind models, this smoker has an ash cup beneath the smoke chamber for fast, clean ash removal. Pull the lever between cooks and the ashes fall into the cup — dump the cooled ash into an appropriate container and you’re ready for the next session.
Direct flame setting
The direct flame setting is useful when you want more direct heat without adding a searbox. A lever moves the flame deflector from over the firepot to the side, allowing flames to rise through the slotted drip tray toward the food. While it doesn’t match the 900°F sizzle of a dedicated searbox, it provides good direct heat for searing and finishing.
Here is the deflector positioned over the firepot:

And here the deflector is moved aside to allow flames through:

The drip pan has notches that guide juices to the grease bucket while allowing flames to rise through the pan to the grate.

Full-color WiFi controller
The full-color WiFi controller is a major highlight. It connects to your home WiFi and links with the Camp Chef Connect app, allowing remote monitoring and control from your smartphone. You can adjust temperatures, change smoke settings, and monitor cooks without being physically next to the smoker.

Importantly, the controller includes four probe inputs and the unit ships with four meat probes. That lets you monitor multiple cuts — briskets, pork butts, chickens, steaks — in any combination from the app, eliminating the need for a separate thermometer when using this version of the Woodwind.

Overall impression
I’ve always liked the Camp Chef Woodwind, and the WiFi model elevates it with four-probe capability, a bright full-color controller, and smart remote features. The smoker is packed with thoughtful, useful features and delivers reliable results across long cooks and high-heat finishes.
One small gripe: the app allows you to request a remote power-on, but you must still confirm power on at the smoker itself. That’s likely a safety/ liability choice, but I’d welcome an optional fully remote power-on for preheating while I’m away.
All told, the Woodwind WiFi is a complete, well-designed pellet smoker that I expect will satisfy most home pitmasters. If you’re shopping for a capable, feature-rich smoker, this model is an excellent choice and worth considering.
